Since the takeover by Todd Boehly and Co. in 2022, Chelsea FC have been on a bit of a spending spree. They have spent well over €1 billion in the past few transfer windows. That spree has led to them having a very bloated roster.
Although sales were made last summer and this summer, the club will still be looking to offload more fringe players and bring down their squad size. This will also help them stay in line with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules.
They currently have the largest squad, with 42 players on their first-team roster, compared to clubs like Arsenal, with just 24 players. Clearly, sales are needed. We'll be looking at a few players the club will hope to offload before the window closes.
#5 Romelu Lukaku - Chelsea striker
You would be forgiven if you've forgotten that Lukaku is still a Chelsea player. The Blues bought him for a massive £97.5 million from Inter Milan for the 21-22 season. He subsequently spent the following two seasons at Inter Milan and Roma respectively. Now back home again, Stamford Bridge will be hoping to cash in on the 31-year-old.
He's rumored to be of interest to AC Milan (via Eurofoot). Napoli may also see him as a possible replacement for Victor Oshimen if the Nigerian international leaves Naples. A swap deal between both clubs could also potentially see the two strikers exchange places (via Fabrizio Romano).
#4 Trevoh Chalobah - Chelsea defender
The 25-year-old centre-back spent most of last season out with injury, only managing 13 league appearances. He is firmly out of Enzo Maresca's plans, after being left out of the pre-season trip to the USA. The likelihood of being reintegrated back into the squad is very low, and the club will be hoping to offload the player.
There have been links to Manchester United (via United in Focus), but the Red Devils have signed youngster Leny Yoro. Crystal Palace have also been interested in making a move for Chalobah (via Give Me Sport).
#3 Armando Broja - Chelsea forward
Armando Broja's Stamford Bridge career never really took off. He managed just six starts between Chelsea and Fulham, where he went on loan during the winter transfer window last season. Finding playing time at Stamford Bridge is likely out of the question moving forward, and an exit will be on the cards.
The Blues will be looking to offload the strike who managed just two goals in all competitions last season. Everton have been credited with an interest in signing the 22-year-old (via Goodison News). Maybe a move abroad might be what he needs to revive his career, with Juventus also interested (via Football Italia).
#2 Kepa Arrizabalaga - Chelsea goalkeeper
The 29-year-old Spaniard spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, where he was supposed to deputize for the injured Thibaut Courtois. However, he failed to take his chances, and with the emergence of Andriy Lunin as a better option, Kepa's services were not needed at Madrid.
It doesn't seem like he will hold down the spot between the sticks for the Blues either, making an exit more likely than ever. Napoli are reportedly interested, but nothing concrete has materialized yet (via The Pride of London). Chelsea will be hoping someone takes him off their hands seeing as they currently have six senior goalkeepers on their books.
#1 David Datro Fofana - Chelsea striker
David Fofana is a striker who was part of the Bohley signing spree, as he came to the Bridge from Modle in the winter window of the 2022-23 season. He has unfortunately failed to make his mark at the club and they will now be looking to offload him.
The 21-year-old spent the first half of last season at Burnley where he scored four goals in 15 appearances. He was then recalled and sent to Union Berlin, where he managed two goals in 16 appearances. Leicester City, Stuttgart, and Villarreal are credited with interest in the striker (via Fabrizio Romano) and Chelsea will be hoping to recoup their investment in him.
