3 defenders Liverpool could sign this transfer window

Liverpool have entered a new era under Arne Slot. The Dutch manager replaced Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, who left at the end of the last season.

He has a massive task on his hands to build on Klopp's success at the club. Slot is likely to bring in several new faces to the squad during the ongoing summer transfer window.

Liverpool are looking to sign a new defender this summer

According to reputed journalist James Pearce, centre-back is among the positions the Reds are currently looking to bolster. On that note, here's a list of three defenders Liverpool could look to sign this summer transfer window.


#1 Marc Guehi

Marc Guehi has established himself among the best defenders in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea during the summer transfer window of 2021.

He has played 98 league games for the Eagles thus far, scoring three goals and helping register 22 clean sheets. Guehi's performances at Selhurst Park also earned him a place in England's senior squad and he was the Three Lions' star player during their run to the Euro 2024 final.

As per a report by the Guardian, Palace are demanding a transfer fee of close to £70 million to sell Guehi. It remains to seen if the Reds are willing to pay that sort of fee to sign the 24-year-old defender.


#2 Mohamed Simakan

Liverpool have shown interest in signing RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan in recent weeks. The Frenchman has been the Bulls' star performer since joining from Strasbourg in 2021.

Simakan is a versatile defender who is capable of playing anywhere across the backline. His key strengths are his passing and ability in the air. According to WhoScored, the French defender has averaged 1.5 tackles, 2.1 clearances and 46.5 passes per 90 minutes in the league last term. He also contributed two league goals and three assists for the Leipzig-based outfit in 2023-24.

As per a report by Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool have enquired about Simakan in recent weeks. They could look to add him to their squad before the end of the ongoing transfer window.


#3 Rayan Ait-Nouri

Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri is reported to be on the Reds' radar this transfer window. The Algeria international is seen as a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, who turned 30 earlier this year.

Ait-Nouri is an explosive wing-back, who is capable of playing anywhere down the left wing. He is known for his dribbling and tackling skills, coupled with his ability to help his teammates in attack.

Ait-Nouri has played 33 Premier League games last season, registering two goals and one assist. According to WhoScored, the Algeria international averaged 2.2 tackles, 1.9 dribbles and 0.8 key passes in the league during the 2023-24 season.

However, Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested in signing the Wolves defender. Arne Slot has a battle on his hands to snap him up.
