Daniel Ricciardo pulled off a legendary triple overtake at the 2017 Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Baku City Saket en route winning the fifth race of his career. The Aussie started in P10 after crashing into the wall in Q3 and failed to improve on his time.

The then-Red Bull driver got off to a poor start and lost a couple of positions and had to pit early because of brake issues with his car. He made his back to the points after a double overtake on Carlos Sainz and Marcus Ericsson, though.

In a video floating on social media, during the red flag restart, Ricciardo made the most of his superior car by pulling off a triple overtake on Felipe Massa, Lance Stroll and Nico Hulkenberg to move to P3 and behind leaders Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel.

Here's the video:

Speaking with Channel 4 after the race, Daniel Ricciardo called the move a 'winning overtake' as he took advantage of Hamilton and Vettel's struggles at the front. He said (via F1.com):

“Every re-start I was able to make positions and make it happen, and that last one was really important.
"I think there was (Lance) Stroll, (Felipe) Massa, (Nico) Hulkenberg, and me, all kind of nearly four wide, and I managed to get into third. That was, in a way, the winning move.”

Daniel Ricciardo reflects on his 'fortunate' win in Baku

The then Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo said that his win at the Baku City Circuit was a fortunate one, as he didn't have the fastest car on the weekend.

Speaking to the media, the Australian said:

“I think I was pretty fortunate. I’ve only had a few victories, but I think pretty much all of them have come under pretty crazy circumstances or the races have been far from dull. Obviously all of them are special. (Baku) was just crazy.
"We haven’t been necessarily the quickest car on track or all weekend, (but) after my crash in qualifying, I said ‘be there and capitalize on opportunities,’ and I certainly capitalized on all the re-starts where I was able to gain at least one position if not more."

Ricciardo believed that his forward movement in the restarts helped him gain 'rhythm' for the race win:

“It was fun to be in the battle for the most part and towards the end, obviously once I got the lead it was just trying to keep the laps I could. We knew we weren’t setting probably the quickest times on track, but I knew if I kept that rhythm, it was enough to win.” he added.

Daniel Ricciardo went on to add a further three wins post the race in Baku in 2017, winning in China and Monaco the next year and in Monza in 2021 with McLaren.
