Toro Rosso reveals 2013 car launch date

The Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 team has announced that its 2013 car will be launched on February 4, 2013 – the same day that rivals Mercedes have also chosen as their launch date. However, Toro Rosso are at the wrong end of the spectrum in terms of constructors championship points, when compared to Mercedes GP Petronas. The Faenza (Italy) based team will reveal the STR8 in the pit lane at Jerez, just a day before the first pre-season testing. Interestingly, its sister team, Red Bull Racing, will launch its car a day before at Milton Keynes.

Toro Rosso have stuck to their 2012 drivers – Aussie Daniel Ricciardo and Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne – despite their inconsistent performances during the course of the season. Vergne garnered 16 world championship points while his teammate Ricciardo managed just 10 points, as their team finished last among the 9 established teams in F1 (without considering Caterham, Marussia and HRT). Being the sister team of the constructors champion Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso is considered to be a team where future Red Bull drivers are groomed. Hence, it is believed that one among these two will replace Mark Webber, whose contract runs till the end of this season.

Toro Rosso STR8 car launch will take place at 3.30 PM GMT on February 4.
