Former seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher shared some advice with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on the occasion of the latter's retirement in 2013. The two iconic sportsmen had a longer-standing association, having first met in 2002 when the German driver gifted a Ferrari to the Indian cricket superstar.

Considered to be the greatest cricketer by many, the Mumbai native announced his retirement from the sport after 24 years on November 16, 2013, at his home stadium. Among the outpouring of love from fans and sportspeople in his country and worldwide, the former Ferrari driver congratulated the $200 million-worth Tendulkar as well.

Schumacher gave some reflective advice to Tendulkar on the occasion. The F1 legend, who had hung up his helmet in 2012, said in an email (via NDTV),

"As a sportsman with a long active career as well, I think I can judge what it means to be around as many years as Sachin Tendulkar is, and I can only express my biggest respect for his achievements. We have met several times in Italy and India, and even if admittedly I was not - and still am not - very firm in the sport of cricket, I am fully aware of how many people around the world are.
"Having retired a bit earlier than him, I can also tell him that it is something he can look forward to. There is just so much to discover, as finally there is time to do so. I wish him all the best."

Following their initial meeting in 2002 where the Indian cricketer was gifted a Ferrari by Michael Schumacher, the two met again on the eve of the inaugural Indian GP in 2011.

When Michael Schumacher reflected on the 2011 Indian GP

Michael Schumacher said the inaugural Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit in New Delhi was a "positive weekend" for everyone involved.

In November 2011, the then-Mercedes driver, speaking about the event, said (via Gulf News)

"I think it was a very positive weekend for Formula One - and a fantastic, eye-opening experience for all of us. It was a nice surprise to find that there seem to be so many fans of our sport.
"Meeting Sachin was just great - I had met him back some 10 years ago already, so we kind of were familiar with each other. I obviously hope that Formula 1 some day will have as many followers as cricket has!"

Michael Schumacher raced in two out of the three editions of the Indian GP, with his P5 in 2011 being his best result there, as he had a DNF in 2012 following opening-lap skirmishes.
