Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc hilariously claimed that his remark of team principal Frederic Vasseur being "not his girlfriend" was a "weird statement" if said without context. The Monagasque driver and the French team boss have made a successful duo with the latter playing a key role in the 26-year-old's racing career.

Leclerc and Vasseur first crossed paths in Sauber in the former's rookie season in 2018 and reconnected when the Frenchman became team principal of the Ferrari F1 team in 2023. Vassuer will also be reunited with Lewis Hamilton next year after helping the Brit secure the F2 title in 2006.

When asked if Charles Leclerc felt jealous of the bond shared by Lewis Hamilton and Frederic Vassuer, the Ferrari driver said:

"Fred is not my girlfriend."

Motorsport.com shared the same comment on their Instagram, however, Leclerc gave a hilarious reply to the post in the replies and pointed out:

"That’s a weird statement without writing the question that was asked."

During the Festival dello Sport organized in Trento by the Gazzetta dello Sport, Leclerc gave his take on Vasseur and Hamilton's equation and said that racing alongside the veteran will give him opportunities to learn from him.

Charles Leclerc chimes in on Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari

Charles Leclerc stated that Lewis Hamilton being his teammate from next year would be a "super interesting" challenge for him. As quoted by the aforementioned source, the seven-time race winner said:

"I was always aware of the negotiations between Lewis and Ferrari, I knew there was this possibility, everything was very transparent and I was the first to say that for me to have a team-mate of this depth would be motivating. When you have a seven-time world champion driving your own car it's a super interesting challenge, then I have a very good relationship with Lewis and I'm sure that will be the case in the future."
"I admit I am looking forward to the new challenge with Lewis, every team-mate always has very strong points and weaker ones, so you can always learn. I see this as a great opportunity." Leclerc said.

Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc have won two races in the 2024 season with the former winning in Silverstone and Spa and the latter in Monaco and Monza. However, the Ferrari driver leads the seven-time world champion in terms of points as he has amassed 245 points and nine podiums while the Mercedes driver has 174 points and four podiums.

Leclerc is currently P3 in the standings, three places ahead of Hamilton, and would look to close out the season as strongly as possible.
