Williams Racing driver Alex Albon reacted to F1's throwback post on the 2018 Formula 2 race at Baku, Azerbaijan. During that weekend, he won the Feature Race while current Mercedes driver George Russell won the Sprint.

The 2018 season featured both Russell and Albon on the Formula 2 grid before they were promoted to F1 the following season. The drivers remained competitive throughout the season and won multiple races. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend was a special one for both.

Albon qualified in the pole position and won the Feature Race. Meanwhile, Russell managed to win the Sprint race. F2 recently posted a picture reminiscing the moment. Alex Albon, replying to the same, wishes to achieve a similar result this year. He wrote:

George Russell ultimately won the Formula 2 World Championship that season. He was followed by Lando Norris and Alex Albon in the standings, and all three were promoted to F1 in 2019 with different teams. Russell moved to Williams, Norris found his way to McLaren, and Albon initially moved to Toro Rosso but was promoted to Red Bull.

F1 is heading to the streets of Baku next after an exciting race at Italy. The Baku City Circuit provides a combination of low-speed corners and long straights, giving the drivers a challenge as they navigate through the 6-kilometer track.

Previewing his performance ahead of the weekend, Alex Albon talked about the track's nature (via Williams Racing).

"Heading to Baku, it's the first street circuit we've been to after a long stint of traditional tracks. The streets of Baku have a nice rhythm and it's a familiar circuit that I enjoy building up to across Friday and Saturday, into Qualifying."

He also wishes to capitalize this weekend after scoring points in Monza and making the most of the long straights in the Williams.

"I'm also looking forward to testing our upgraded package on a different style track and seeing how the car responds in these different conditions. It's usually an exciting and unpredictable race with good opportunities for overtaking, which we hope to capitalize on this weekend."

Albon has scored six points in the season so far, and that has kept the team a little distant from the bottom of the standings. Logan Sargeant, who had been racing with the team since the 2023 F1 season, was replaced by Franco Colapinto from the Italian Grand Prix onwards. The team will be hoping to perfom better in the remainder of the season.
