In his second year with McLaren, Oscar Piastri has slowly become a strong title contender for the team. Ahead of the US Grand Prix, the young Australian racer shared a hilarious response to Liam Lawson being his rival in VCARB.

Piastri has been one of the more consistent F1 drivers in the 2024 season. With McLaren bringing in crucial upgrades during the Japanese GP, the #81 driver soon began challenging rivals like Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz and Max Verstappen. The 23-year-old racer was also able to clinch his two career wins in the ongoing season (Hungary and Azerbaijan), along with five podium finishes. This has allowed Piastri to climb to fourth position in the Drivers' table.

Ahead of the US GP in Austin, Piastri was questioned about having the New Zealand-based Liam Lawson as a new rival. He shared a hilarious response during the media interaction.

"I kind of hope not, because I think with the differences in car performance. If we're rivals on track, then something's either going really well for one of us or really badly for the other," Piastri commented, highlighting the performance difference between McLaren and VCARB.

Piastri's statement as given above was shared on X by Motorsport.com. Here's a look at the post:

Apart from sharing opinions on Lawson and VCARB, Piastri also spoke about Red Bull Racing's controversial front bib height adjustment device.

"We're obviously pushing the boundaries of the technical regulations. Everyone is, and that's what makes F1, F1. But from what I've heard and been told, something like this is not pushing the boundaries, it's clearly breaking them," Piastri said.
"I haven't heard which car it's on, or if it's on any car, and obviously there's the reports of it. But if it is something that's being used, it's clearly not been pushing the boundaries. It's been out of the grey area and into a black area," he added.

"I felt like we had a really quick car underneath us" - Oscar Piastri claimed about a good recovery drive during the Singapore Grand Prix

Oscar Piastri struggled with the pace in the Qualifying session during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, thereby finishing P5. However, the #81 McLaren driver did a good recovery drive, ending the race with a podium finish (P3).

The young Australian expressed his delight with his MCL38 race car during a post-race media interaction.

"It was a good race, a good recovery from qualifying yesterday. It wasn’t my greatest afternoon yesterday, but to get back to the podium is a great result. I felt like we had a really quick car underneath us and a good strategy to get past the Mercedes. A big thank you to the team, the car was exceptional this weekend, and some great points for the whole team," Piastri said.

With a 1 and 3 finish at the Marina Bay Street circuit by Lando Norris and Piastri respectively, McLaren has been able to extend the lead over its title-rival Red Bull Racing. With six races to go, the latter is 41 points behind Mclaren in the Constructors' table.
