Lewis Hamilton's father, Anthony, was certain of his son's victory at the 2024 F1 British Grand Prix. The Mercedes icon clinched his first race win of the season at his home track, the Silverstone Circuit.

It took 56 races but Hamilton was back on the top of Formula 1 podium. After what seemed like a never-ending win drought for his enthusiasts, the British racing icon emerged victorious in the 2024 British GP, after getting the better of reigning three-time F1 champion Max Verstappen and McLaren ace Lando Norris.

Hamilton's win was his first since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Since then, the seven-time World Champion went on to miss out on the taste of victory for two straight seasons, and a total of 945 days.

As he won his ninth British Grand Prix, perhaps his most special one, an emotional Lewis Hamilton warmly embraced his father, Anthony. The heartwarming moment captured the hearts of millions of fans around the globe.

In an interview with the BBC following the victory, Anthony Hamilton shared his confidence in his son's success. He said:

"I'm just overwhelmed. I knew there's no way Lewis is ever gonna allow Max to win the British Grand Prix with 2, 3 seconds in hand on him. No surprises."

Discussing Hamilton's last year with Mercedes, Anthony added:

"Always special. It's funny enough I was on the grid taking some photos of Lewis as it's the last time we'll sit in the Mercedes car on the grid. This is fitting to the end of our year with them."

Hamilton's race engineer, Peter Bonnington, known affectionately as Bono, also shared his thoughts on the monumental win. Speaking to Sky Sports F1’s Ted Kravitz, Bonnington remarked:

"I wouldn’t say crying, I had something in my eye!"

He went on to describe the extensive journey behind the victory, saying:

"It’s an emotional one. It’s been a long, long time, and he and I have been working hard trying to get back there. Baby steps, but it’s taken a lot of them so far."

When asked if he had any doubts about Hamilton staying ahead of Verstappen, Bonnington replied:

"I wouldn’t say zero doubt, but I knew that once he had the bit between his teeth – as soon as I get told to shut up then I know that the game’s on."

Lewis Hamilton is ranked eighth in the F1 Drivers' standings after 12 races. Meanwhile, Red Bull's Max Verstappen continues to sit at the top with 255 points.
