Fernando Alonso had a tough way of welcoming Liam Lawson back to F1 in Texas this weekend. The Aston Martin man was involved in an on-track battle with the new RB (formerly AlphaTauri) driver during the sprint, and going by his reaction, he was far from happy with the Kiwi.

Alonso started his race from P14 after qualifying in that position on Friday. He started ahead of Lawson, who was down in P15. As the lights went out and the race began, Alonso found himself side-by-side with Lawson.

Both Alonso and Lawson tried to outsmart each other and hunt for the driver ahead. In trying to do so, the two drivers were agonizingly close to each other and were inches away from making contact.

As Lawson found his way ahead, he tried to defend his place from Alonso and blocked his path. Watching the block, the Aston Martin driver had to take the outside route, and in doing so, he went deep into the corner, and lost pace.

This infuriated the two-time world champion, as he did not shy away from sharing his thoughts on Liam Lawson. He hit out on the radio:

"Man, the AlphaTauri is such an idiot," Alonso said targeting the RB driver.

Liam Lawson made his F1 return after RB dropped Daniel Ricciardo following the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. The New Zealander made his F1 debut for the same team last year as a replacement for Ricciardo.

The 2024 F1 season hasn't been going well for Fernando Alonso and his team. Despite a brilliant comeback in 2023, the Silverstone-based team has fallen flat this year, and as it seems, there is no way out.

Formula 1 is in the United States for the 19th race of the season, and the weekend was scheduled to also have a Sprint race. The Sprint took place on Saturday, following the Sprint qualifying on Friday.

This was the fourth Sprint of 2024, and Max Verstappen came out victorious. Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris wrapped up the podium places. However, Alonso had a race to forget as he came home at a lowly P18.

His teammate, Lance Stroll, also failed to fetch. He crossed the finish line in P13. The British team is currently occupying P5 in the constructors' championship with 86 points after 18 races and four Sprints.
