Fernando Alonso clarified his goals for racing with Aston Martin in the future, stating that he is focused on winning the third F1 World Championship. He won two consecutive titles in 2005 and 2006 and has been fighting for the third since.

The 43-year-old is the most experienced driver on the current F1 grid. He debuted in the 2001 season and retired after 2017. He then returned with Alpine in 2021 and signed with Aston Martin for the 2023 season. His stint last season was successful, finishing fourth in the championship. This gave hope for a championship battle in the coming seasons, but the team's performance has been mediocre so far in the season compared to last year.

However, Alonso has not given up hopes for a third title yet. Despite the car's pace, he is focused on winning the third world championship. Talking about the "Triple Crown" in an interview (via motorsport.com), Alonso said he is not planning to win the Indy500 anytime soon, but his main focus is on the F1 title.

"I attempted Indy 500 three times and didn't succeed. It's the only one missing [from the triple crown]. But at the moment, it's not in my plan," Alonso said. "I'm very, very focused [on] Formula 1 now. For the next two or three years, I want to win the third world title. This is my first and only priority at the moment."

"It will mean a lot for me": Fernando Alonso reveals his wish to win the Dakar Rally

Fernando Alonso comes across as one of the most successful racing drivers in history. Other than Formula 1, he won the 24 Hours of LeMans twice and also the World Endurance Championship. However, he is not yet done winning other series.

The Dakar Rally, which is one of the most challenging forms in motorsports, remains a goal for Alonso. In the same interview (via motorsport.com), he said it would be his next challenge in racing.

"I think my next biggest challenge will be the Dakar. If I can win Dakar, I think it will be hugely rewarding for me personally because I can win in Formula 1, I can win in endurance racing, win in Le Mans and Daytona, and if I can win in rally as well, it will mean a lot for me as a driver," he said.

Despite eight podiums last season, Fernando Alonso's 2024 campaign has taken a little dip. Although he has finished in points rather consistently, there is no sign of a victory or a podium in sight for the coming races. His best finish was a P5 in Saudi Arabia.

However, Aston Martin can expect improvement in the upcoming seasons. The team signed Adrian Newey earlier this year as he departed from Red Bull. He will join the team in full capacity from the 2025 season. Given his experience, the team could be in to create a powerful challenger for the 2026 F1 season in compliance with the new regulations.
