Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso voiced his frustration over his team radio during the FP1 session at the Singapore Grand Prix on Friday after avoiding a crash on Turn 7. It was a moderate start to the weekend for the Spanish driver as he finished P9 in the session ahead of the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.

However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for the two-time world champion as he had to avoid crashing his AMR24 in the wall while doing a times lap on the soft tires. When enquired by the team about him pushing the pit button on a fast lap, Fernando Alonso replied:

"No, I press all the buttons at the same time to avoid having an accident with this car," Alonso said.

It has been a mixed season for Fernando Alonso this year as he started the 2024 campaign on a promising note, finishing in the top six in the first few races and looking competitive against the likes of McLaren and Mercedes.

However, the British team upgrade package has left a lot of performance on the table and taken them out of touch with the front-running teams. Speaking to The Race during the Dutch GP, Alonso reviewed his season so far and said:

"I'm not super happy with the season from myself - but I'm much more happy than what the people think about the season. I don't know what the people expect sometimes - when the car is [as it is], we've been fighting with the midfield teams recently, and I still have good points," Alonso said.

The Spaniard, discussing his teammate, Lance Stroll's performances, believed that Stroll was doing a 'mega job' this year and had seemingly fixed some of the car-related issues that had plagued him last season.

Fernando Alonso compared his 2024 season to teammate Lance Stroll

Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso said that even in 'one of his worst years' as claimed by some in the F1 fraternity, he has managed to score double the points of his teammate Lance Stroll, who matched Sebastian Vettel in the German's final year in the sport.

As quoted by the aforementioned source, Alonso said:

"He (Lance Stroll) was at the same [lap]time as Vettel in the last year. And in 'one of my worst seasons' - [as it's being described] when I read sometimes some news - I have double [Lance's] points. I'm not sure how many drivers have double the points of their team-mate in any of the teams on the grid," Alonso said.

Fernando Alonso has scored 58 points in the 2024 season thus far and has almost cemented himself in P9 in the Driver's Championship while Lance Stroll, a place behind the 43-year-old in the standings, has amassed 24 points during the same time.
