2016 F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg critiqued Lando Norris's driving during the Singapore Grand Prix, pointing out his mistakes while leading with a comfortable margin. He emphasized that Norris would need to significantly improve his performance to have a chance at winning the World Championship against Max Verstappen this season.

McLaren has recently surged to the top of the Constructors' World Championship standings following a strong performance at the Baku Grand Prix. The team has demonstrated significant improvements in their overall competitiveness, while reigning champions Red Bull have faced challenges with underperformance.

This has allowed Lando Norris to challenge Max Verstappen for the World Championship. The Singapore Grand Prix showcased the impressive pace of his McLaren as he established a comfortable 30-second lead over his nearest competitor in second place. Although he was leading the race with a comfortable pace, Norris made multiple mistakes. He outbraked himself multiple times, causing his wheels to lock up. He also chipped the wall at one point in time. However, he still managed to win the race.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Nico Rosberg claimed that the 24-year-old tends to make these mistakes quite often. He further said that it was baffling to see him commit such mistakes.

"Very strange was the mistakes that he was doing in the race," Rosberg said. "That for me, it kind of baffled me a little bit what was going on there, because he hit the wall twice, and one and both, both were like really severe almost, race endings, moments where he was quite lucky not to not to be DNF."
"That was a bit strange. I mean, I know Singapore is so hard concentration, physically, it's so so tough. But it was, I don't know what it's down to, that there's so many little but we know that from Lando, that he tends to make those little arrows errors all the time. Everywhere we've seen that from him, and he needs to iron that out if he wants to fight for the championship this year," the 39-year-old added.

It is apparent that the MCL38 has enough pace to dominate the entire grid. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner was also shocked after the Singapore Grand Prix as Norris crossed the line with sheer dominance.

Red Bull boss shocked by Lando Norris's pace as he "got away" despite making mistakes

Christian Horner expressed his shock at McLaren's race at the Marina Bay Circuit. Talking to the media, he noted that Lando Norris had been able to recover from two incidents where he made contact with the wall.

"Yeah, that was taking the p***!" he said when asked about Norris's pace. "I shouldn’t say that in an official capacity. I mean, the pace he had in hand on that tyre, at that point in time."
"At that point we’ve conceded the race on pace. He touched the wall for the first time and then touched it for the second time, but obviously got away with it," he added.

Despite Norris's impressive speed and early-season dominance, securing the World Championship remains a formidable challenge. Max Verstappen's strong start to the season has given him a significant advantage. Under the current circumstances, even if the Dutchman finishes second in every remaining race without claiming the fastest lap point, he would still be crowned World Champion.
