F1 fans were left a bit disappointed after reports of Aston Martin F1 team becoming the frontrunner to sign Adrian Newey for the 2025 season emerged. The aero wizard announced that he would be leaving the Red Bull F1 in early 2025 after 19 years with the Austrian team.

The 65-year-old had guided the Milton Keynes-based outfit to seven drivers championship and six constructors championships during his tenure with them. After his announcement, it was Ferrari who approached first and led the discussions of a potential dream collaboration between him, the Italian team, and Lewis Hamilton for next year.

However, as per "Last Word on Sports", the discussions with the Prancing Horses and Adrian Newey's talks have faded a bit with Aston Martin now emerging as the frontrunner after Newey visited their new Silverstone factory. The British team and the aero wizard have previously worked together on the Valkryie project when the former was the title sponsor of the Red Bull F1 team.

F1 fans took to social media to react to the reports of Adrian Newey potentially joining the iconic British brand for the 2025 season on X, with one fan claiming that Newey would give Lance Stroll a championship, saying:

Fernando Alonso reacts to the news of Adrian Newey joining Aston Martin

Fernando Alonso stated that the Silverstone-based team were becoming 'appealing' and 'strong' ahead of the new 2026 engine regulations given the investment made by team owner Lawrence Stroll.

In a clip shared on social media, the two-time world champion said:

“For next year and 2026, with the change of regulations, the team is becoming very strong and appealing. All the best engineers and the best designers are coming to Aston Martin. The best facilities in F1. The future is bright and I am super excited,” Alonso said (via @stiiluna_ on X).

He had previously told F1.com that it was a good sign that Newey was linked to the British team and added:

“[For him] to be linked with us is already a good sign and good news for us, that a legend of the sport and Aston Martin are linked somehow. We are also very happy with our technical department, and let’s see what he decides and if he keeps working or not in the paddock."
