Former F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve questioned Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll's commitment to F1 ahead of his home race in Canada this weekend. The Canadian driver has been under scrutiny for his seat in the sport as he has been outperformed by two-time world champion Fernando Alonso regularly during their time together.

The main reason behind the 24-year-old's criticism comes from his results compared to the opportunities provided to him by Lawrence Stroll, father of Lance and owner of Aston Martin. Many believe that he would never be replaced within the Silverstone-based team as his father is the owner.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Jacques Villeneuve questioned if Lance Stroll ever had the desire to become a racing driver or was pushed to do so by his billionaire father. He said:

"Did he ever have a choice did he ever want to really become a race car driver or is it his father's dream? The father has always been extremely passionate about racing.
"I knew him in my IndyCar days and he wanted to be a racer himself he was not allowed and he's living his dreams. So did his son actually have the choice or not?"

In the pre-race press conference, Lance Stroll was asked about his future in the sport as his contract expires with the iconic British team at the end of the 2024 season. He replied:

"Yeah, that's where my head's at, for sure. Seems to be a pretty popular question that I've been getting asked recently. And yeah, it's super exciting. Everything that's happening at Silverstone, the project with the team, and how we've grown over the last few years."

Jacques Villeneuve gives his take on Lawrence Stroll's never-give-up attitude

Jacques Villeneuve stated that Lawrence Stroll was adamant about his son's future in the sport and would not give up on his dreams.

As per GrandPrix247, the former Williams F1 driver said:

“A billionaire father can stick with his son for as long as he likes! That was the only reason for getting into F1. Lawrence is not one to admit defeat. He will fight it until he is proven right. He will not give up. That is not a bad trait."

Jacques Villeneuve added:

"That is what made him so successful, getting hold of brands. Making them valuable and selling them when they were worth a ton more. He is a master of that. Now it is a little more personal because his son is involved."

Lance Stroll has only scored 11 points thus far in the eight races and two Sprints in the 2024 season and is currently P11 in the driver's standings while teammate Fernando Alonso has scored 33 points and sits at P9.
