Carlos Sainz's father Sainz Sr. is positive about his son's future team Williams Racing as he feels that they are showing an upward trend in development. Sainz will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari next year.

He gained some experience winning races and proved to be a competitive driver in his four seasons with the team. But as Hamilton was signed with the team, he was the clear choice to be replaced as his teammate Charles Leclerc already has a multi-year contract with the team.

After long speculation, he struck a deal with Williams Racing for the 2025 F1 season, partnering Alex Albon. The team is seemingly the polar opposite of Ferrari in terms of performance, but they could extract the most out of their car with Albon and Sainz. Sainz Sr. said while explaining Carlos' move to the team:

"Williams is a project that is going up, at the end of this year it has started to go better and we have to hope, and we trust in it, that next year it will continue on an upward trend," he told Marca.

While Carlos Sainz Sr. expects the team to follow an upward trend in the next F1 season, team principal James Vowles said otherwise. The team is trying to shift their focus to the 2026 season with the new regulations.

"2025 will be a struggle" says Williams boss, claims both Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz are aware of the situation

2026 will be an important season, especially for teams currently underperforming. Although top teams will have technological advancements to develop their cars better, there could be fierce competition in the midfield as it would be a blank canvas for all teams.

Heading towards the end of the current F1 season, Williams is planning to shift their focus to the 2026 cars. This, in turn, would affect the team's performance in the 2025 season. Team principal James Vowles said the season could be a "struggle."

"It’s the message that Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz both know: 2025 will be a struggle, I think," Vowles told Motorsport.com. "It’s not that you’re going to see us moving forward, we’re going to move back a little bit."
"And if we are, I’m okay with that, because it simply says that I’m investing at the right rate for ‘26 compared to those around me. That’s what we should be expecting from it: we are going to compromise ’25. That doesn’t mean we’ll be tenth, but it’s going to be a hard year," he added.

Williams has scored 16 points in the season so far, sitting at eighth place in the championship. Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant had been in their lineup since the 2023 season, but the latter was replaced by Franco Colapinto mid-season.
