Daniel Ricciardo once jokingly flipped off a fan on the popular TV show Top Gear. This was in response to a question about being stuck behind Lewis Hamilton in F1.

Top Gear has been a popular place among F1 fans. Over the years, many notable drivers including the likes of Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, and others have appeared as guests on the show.

On the third episode of the 22nd season of the show in 2015, Daniel Ricciardo was a special guest alongside Jeremy Clarkson. As the show went on, the latter prompted fans to ask Ricciardo, who was then in his second season racing with Red Bull, a question. One of the fans in the audience was quick to ask:

"What does the back of Lewis's car look like?"

This question was a clear indication of Lewis Hamilton's dominance on the grid with Mercedes and the fact that the Australian struggled to finish ahead of him. Daniel Ricciardo then flipped off towards the fan, jokingly saying:

"Can you see that?"

The entire audience, including Jeremy Clarkson, broke into laughter upon his quirky reply.

Ricciardo, however, did not just leave a mark on the show with his marvelous wit. He also managed to set the fastest lap time around the Top Gear circuit of any other F1 driver. Ironically enough, he finished just ahead of Lewis Hamilton in this stat.

Daniel Ricciardo has the fastest lap time on Top Gear of any F1 driver, ahead of Lewis Hamilton

Top Gear was a popular automobile chat show among F1 fans, especially with the appearance of multiple notable drivers. A signature part of the show was the laps that the guests would set in cars, running around the purpose-built circuit for the show.

Fans loved the circuit. The concept of the lap involved the guest racing around the circuit trying to put on the fastest lap. While celebrities were not always particularly fast, it was just another day for the F1 drivers who appeared on the show.

Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest lap time among F1 drivers at 1:42.2. He beat Lewis Hamilton, who, on his second attempt, set a 1:42.9. He had the fastest lap time of any other driver that previously appeared on the show.

These two were not the only F1 drivers that appeared on the show, however. Other drivers from the sport also set remarkable lap 2times:

  • Mark Webber - 1:43.1
  • Sebastian Vettel - 1:44.0
  • Rubens Barrichello - 1:44.3
