"Buxton back on my nice list for Christmas": Fans react to F1 pundit's prediction of Lando Norris beating Max Verstappen to the title in 2024

F1 fans were ecstatic after pundit Will Buxton claimed that he believed that McLaren driver Lando Norris would win the driver's championship and beat Max Verstappen. The British driver has been a contender for the title ever since he won the first race of his career in Miami, as the Woking-based outfit has gradually taken over the mantle of having the fastest car on the grid.

The MCL38 is arguably the most well-rounded car in F1 given its prowess and performance in every downforce configuration thus far. Heading into the season's final six races, Norris trails the three-time world champion by 52 points, with the latter struggling to fight for podiums and race wins consistently.

While appearing on the Fast and the Curious podcast, Will Buxton was asked if he believed that Lando Norris could win the championship this year, to which he replied:

"Yes. I've been saying it since Austria. It was when he came up the second in the championship which was the Austrian Grand Prix weekend. I drilled Stella on it in the pitlane when Piastri passed him in the Sprint race and I was like what are you doing?"

"Why are you letting him take points off Norris? It's taken from Austria to now for Lando to get back to the same points gap he had it's happening. I genuinely think it is."

F1 fans took to social media to give their reactions to Will Buxton's predictions and picking the McLaren driver over Max Verstappen on X, with one Lando Norris claiming that the pundit was back on their 'Christmas list', saying:

While some fans were a bit hesitant with Will Buxton's take and reacted:

Lando Norris lays down his strategy for the final phase of the 2024 season

McLaren driver Lando Norris said he was doing his best every weekend and scoring as many points as possible.

In the post-race press conference at the Singapore GP last month, the Brit said:

"Try and do the same again, but Max is pushing hard. I'm sure Red Bull are pushing hard. So, I mean, it's obvious it's... I'm doing my best every weekend. I'm trying to get the most points I can every weekend. Includes fastest lap and things like that.

"But if Max keeps finishing second and Red Bull keep doing like they did this weekend, then nothing more I can do. So just focus on myself and focus on us as a team. That's it."

Lando Norris has to outscore Max Verstappen by approximately nine points in the remaining race weekends to win his first world championship this year.
