Alpine set for Pierre Gasly-Carlos Sainz lineup in 2025: Reports

It is reported that Alpine is pushing hard for Carlos Sainz to race for the team alongside Pierre Gasly for the 2025 season. The French team parted ways with Esteban Ocon recently, ending their five-year partnership with the 27-year-old that saw them capture their sole race win in Hungary in 2021.

The Enstone-based team has slid down the grid in the 2024 season, enduring a dismal start to the year with multiple pointless races. It broke its duck in Miami when Ocon finished P10 and has recently seen a three-race points scoring streak that have catapulted the team into P7 in the Constructor's Championship.

Despite its current predicament, Alpine could be considered a desired destination for several out-of-contract drivers for the coming year, with Carlos Sainz being one of them. The Spanish driver would be leaving Ferrari at the end of the season after the Italian team replaced him with Lewis Hamilton.

Sainz has been the hottest driver on the market since he was let go by the Prancing Horses and has been linked with the Audi, Williams, and Mercedes seats. As per L'Equipe, despite being close to signing for Williams F1, the 29-year-old met with Alpine during the Spanish GP weekend and could be enticed by the works team over the Grove-based outfit.

Sainz and the French team have previously worked together from late 2017 to 2018 during its Renault days when the team then finished in P4 in the Constructor's Championship. After announcing Pierre Gasly's extension, Alpine is trying its best to get Carlos Sainz back into the fold.

Pierre Gasly explains his decision to re-sign with Alpine

Pierre Gasly signed a contract extension with Alpine F1 and stated that he 'enjoyed' being a real part of the project.

On the team's official website, the 28-year-old explained his decision and said:

“I feel very much at home at this great team. I enjoy being a real part of both the Formula 1 project and the wider Alpine Cars vision. I’ve been officially here for over 18 months and it has always been the plan to build a long-term project with the Team."

Pierre Gasly reiterated his confidence in the team's ability to work through a difficult phase, adding:

"While on track it’s been a challenging season so far, I remain faithful to the project and I am not going anywhere. I am happy with the changes made, the hard work, and the direction the team is taking.
"There is a lot of potential in this team’s personnel and resources. I’m excited for what is to come in the future and right now I’m focusing on the everyday details that we are putting in to improve our performances.”

Pierre Gasly has scored five of the team's eight points in ten races and two Sprints thus far.
