The F1 world is going through the summer break, and it gives us the chance to look back at how the season has been until now. When it's a 24-race season, it can become hard to truly pass the correct judgment when it comes to finding out how a driver or a team has performed.

In a previous article, we'd ranked the top 5 drivers of the 2024 F1 season, and to do that, we took the average of driver ratings of every race and then arranged them accordingly.

In this feature, we're going to rank the five worst drivers in the 2024 F1 season, and we'll follow the same methodology.

#5 Kevin Magnussen (Avg rating: 6.00) (Haas F1)

At No. 5, we have Kevin Magnussen. The Danish driver returned to F1 with a bang in 2022 and was more or less a competitive driver, with a few standout races that season. In 2023, however, Kevin's teammate changed from Mick Schumacher to Nico Hulkenberg and since then, control within the team has gone to the other driver.

The manner in which Nico continues to extract the best possible results from the car is what makes Kevin look worse as well. Qualifying has been exposed as one major weakness for the Danish driver and that has made him drop a few more pegs in the overall pecking order.

#4 Lance Stroll (Avg rating: 5.82) (Aston Martin)

At No. 4, we have Lance Stroll, as while we do have a few races where the Canadian has done a decent job, his start to the season was poor.

Whether the Strolls like it or not, Lance within Aston Martin is a liability, and the team might have to think long and hard about changing the dynamics within the team if success is what the squad truly wants.

#3 Logan Sargeant (Avg rating: 5.54) (Williams)

At No. 3, we have Logan Sargeant, who has arguably been a better driver than what he delivered in 2023. The American F1 driver has had quite a few odds stacked against him this season. It all started with the driver being forced to miss a race because Alex Albon had cracked his chassis in a crash.

It has also seen Logan struggle to find a sustained, regular support system where he runs the same parts as his teammate. During all of this, he also has to make sure that he's either close to Alex or beats him. With that being said, there's a growth factor that every driver strives for when they enter F1.

Logan has not had that. Unlike last season, he's not at the bottom but he's very close to being the worst driver again this year.

#2 Sergio Perez (Avg rating: 5.53) (Red Bull)

2024 is arguably the worst season Sergio Perez has put together in his F1 career, as he finds himself as the second-worst driver of the season. The Mexican has just been buried under the pressure of being a Max Verstappen teammate and a Red Bull driver. He's expected to perform with a car he's all at sea with and that's very hard to achieve.

Sergio is a more capable F1 driver than what the rankings show but this is where he finds himself for now.

#1 Guanyu Zhou (Avg rating: 5.43) (Sauber)

At the bottom of the rankings, we have Zhou Guanyu whose performances have completely fallen off the cliff. The Chinese driver doesn't have a contract for 2025 and looking at his performances, it's going to be hard to give him one.
