The 2024 F1 Singapore GP is often termed as one of the most demanding races on the track. It's not only the humidity but the compounding factor of these cars being too heavy and requiring a lot of work behind the wheel in the slow speed sections.

The fact that we didn't see too many crashes or cars just ending up in the barriers is a testament to the ability of the drivers at play here. With that being said, a few drivers set themselves apart this weekend while others struggled to do so. In this feature, let's take a look at how every driver fared this weekend.

Criteria

  • Performance in both qualifying and races is judged.
  • Results achieved compared to the potential of the car.
  • Mistakes made over the weekend.
  • Relative performance against their teammate.

2024 F1 Singapore GP: Rating the drivers

Red Bull

Max Verstappen

Rating: 10

It was as perfect as a weekend can get from Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver nailed everything with the car that he had, and the result was a strong P2 finish. This was the Verstappen of old, one that nailed everything every time.

Sergio Perez

Rating: 5.5

It was a return to mediocrity for Sergio Perez this weekend as the questions make a comeback. Daniel Ricciardo probably raced his last race at the F1 Singapore GP but if Sergio doesn't show improvements, he might be next in line to be shown the door.

Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton

Rating: 7

It was a strong qualifying followed by a not-so-good race where Lewis didn't have the pace of his teammate. There's a point at which the driver might want to ask himself why he tried the soft tire gamble when he was starting the race as high as P3.

George Russell

Rating: 8

He was the faster Mercedes driver in the F1 Singapore GP. George was not comfortable with the car until Q3, but once he got the groove, he was more or less on pace. The gap between him and Lewis is now less than 20 points as the F1 Singapore GP ends.

Ferrari

Charles Leclerc

Rating: 7.5

While the tire temperature thing falls on Ferrari, Leclerc should have also made it a point that he nailed whatever lap he could on Saturday. The fact that he made a mistake is on him as well. The race was peerless, as he showed blistering pace this weekend.

Carlos Sainz

Rating: 6.5

The crash in Q3 was entirely on Carlos. He had a decent race, but maybe a few mode points would have been possible with a better start.

McLaren

Lando Norris

Rating: 9

Except for the occasional entanglement with the walls, Lando Norris was a class apart. He nailed qualifying, nailed the start, and then it was just management as he had pace available to just dictate the terms. It was an impressive all-round weekend for Lando.

Oscar Piastri

Rating: 6

If you're more than 40 seconds behind your teammate, it's the kind of thrashing you don't normally expect a driver like Oscar to get. The problem for the Australian was qualifying. When that didn't go well, the rest of the F1 Singapore GP just unraveled for him.

Aston Martin

Fernando Alonso

Rating: 8.5

It was a classic Fernando Alonso weekend where you can't make even a single claim that the car could have brought a better result. This was just amazing work from the Spaniard as he extracted everything possible from the Aston Martin at the F1 Singapore GP.

Lance Stroll

Rating: 4

We saw another poor weekend from Lance Stroll, as the Canadian just didn't have the car to get the requisite results. The driver is once again starting to get exposed at Aston Martin.

Alpine

Pierre Gasly

Rating: 6

Gasly didn't have the performance of his teammate at the F1 Singapore GP, and hence he was some distance behind Ocon. Coupled with an underwhelming Alpine, nothing was on the table in terms of points.

Esteban Ocon

Rating: 7.5

Ocon was the better driver by a distance at Alpine, but unfortunately, the car has no pace to be any kind of a factor in the F1 Singapore GP.

Williams

Alex Albon

Rating: 5.5

It wasn't the best weekend for Alex, who has looked a bit disconnected from what's going on track. Wasn't a good couple of days for Albon as his F1 Singapore GP ended early.

Franco Colapinto

Rating: 7.5

Franco might just be the one that ends up being the future for Williams. The driver impressed once again during the F1 Singapore GP.

V-Ca-RB

Daniel Ricciardo

Rating: 5.5

It wasn't the best showing from Daniel in what might be his last F1 race. The F1 Singapore GP might just be the final race Daniel is part of, and that's where it all ends.

Yuki Tsunoda

Rating: 6

Yuki Tsunoda didn't do himself any favors with a poor start that put him on the backfoot. Once he was out of the top 10, the Japanese driver couldn't do anything to make up places as he didn't have the pace to contend with the cars ahead.

Stake F1 Sauber

Valtteri Bottas

Rating: 5.5

Bottas ended up finishing the race behind Zhou Guanyu this time around. Rumors during the F1 Singapore GP say that the Finnish driver could keep his seat for next season. These drives, however, don't really help.

Guanyu Zhou

Rating: 5

It was a weekend where Zhou finished ahead of his teammate, but unfortunately the Sauber didn't have much to offer otherwise. The Chinese driver is almost certainly winding down his F1 career, and the Singapore GP race weekend meant that now there are only six races left.

Haas F1

Kevin Magnussen

Rating: 8

Kevin Magnussen was just a step behind Nico Hulkenberg in general throughout the F1 Singapore GP. The gap seemingly widened in qualifying and was glaring in the race as well. It wasn't the best return to racing for Kev.

Nico Hulkenberg

Rating: 7.5

It was another impressive weekend from Nico Hulkenberg where he made sure he got the most out of the car. The German driver maybe would have wanted a shot at keeping Alonso behind, but this result means he's now jumped Lance Stroll in the championship standings.
