Since Virat Kohli has become the captain of India for all three formats the parameters for. the selection has changed. The team management has now decided that a player will be selected in the Indian squad only if he passes the Yo-Yo Test. Even the India A players are selected on this basis. So if a player is not fit enough to pass the Yo-Yo Test then he can't be a part of Indian Squad. It is compulsory for each and every player - even the Test Specialists to pass this Test. When this Test was announced it had mixed views from the experts. Some suggested that it was a good move and will make the players fit.

On the other hand some we're of the view that if a player has a great skill level and is falling short of the Yo-Yo Test by just a few points then he should be selected. The demands of the game are such that if a player wants to play all three formats then he has to be fit. Earlier there wasn't much emphasis on fitness but nowadays the sport of is demanding fitness. Some Indian players have been on the wrong side of this Test and have failed the Test. Unfortunately, they were left out of some important matches. So, let's have a look at 5 such players.

Yuvraj Singh was dropped due to fitness issues

Yuvraj Singh was part of the Indian Team which went to England in 2017 to play the Champions Trophy. He played 3 more ODIs after that in West Indies and since then has never played for India. After the West Indies tour, India traveled to Sri Lanka to play 5 ODIs and when the squad for that series was announced Yuvraj Singh wasn't named in that squad. The first report came as he was rested from the team.

However, later on, it was reported that he was dropped as he failed to clear the Yo-Yo Test. Yuvraj Singh didn't get selected for a lot of series due to this Yo-Yo Test. Earlier this year Yuvraj passed the Yo-Yo Test but he didn't have game time under his belt. He missed a lot of domestic matches to perform well in this Test.

Eventually, he did pass the Yo-Yo Test but didn't score much with the bat in the remaining domestic season and in the IPL as well. Looking at his current form, it looks difficult for Yuvraj to make a comeback, but if he can score runs in the upcoming domestic season he still has a chance as he has passed the Yo-Yo Test.

#4 Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar missed an India call-up due to the Yo-Yo Test

Washington Sundar the 18-year-old off spinner from Tamil Nadu missed his maiden India call-up due to the Yo-Yo Test. He had performed well in the 2017 IPL. He continued his good form in the Duleep Trophy and later on in the domestic season. He performed well in the TNPL as well and so was in the fray for a maiden India call-up for the T20I series against Australia in 2017.

Unfortunately, Washington Sundar failed to pass the Test and so wasn't considered for selection. But later on, he passed the Test and was selected for India against Sri Lanka in December 2017. Since then he has played few games for India and still remains in the squad for the England ODI and T20I series.

Mohammad Shami was dropped from the squad for the historic Test

Mohammad Shami is one of the latest players to miss out on an Indian squad place due to the Yo-Yo Test. Shami missed the historic Test match between India and Afghanistan as he failed the Yo-Yo Test just before the Test match. Mohammad Shami for the past few months hasn't been at his best due to some personal reasons as well. But he is an important part of the Indian Team which will travel to England for the Test Matches.

He had to pass the Yo-Yo Test before the England tour or else India will miss one of their premier fast bowlers. But Mohammad Shami has had fitness issues in the past as well. He missed a lot of cricket after the 2015 World Cup due to a surgery. Since then he plays pre-dominantly the Test Format only. Let's hope that he is fit for the England tour as India needs him there.

Suresh Raina finally passed the Yo-Yo Test and made a comeback in January 2018

Suresh Raina has a similar story to Yuvraj Singh. He was out of the Indian Team for not passing the Yo-Yo Test. It was a surprise for many as Suresh Raina has been one of India's finest fielders. Suresh Raina has been an exceptional player for India over the years. But still he was not being considered for selection. Finally when he passed the Yo-Yo Test in 2018 he was selected for the South Africa T20S.

He had some good outings in that series and the Nidahas Trophy as well. If he can continue his form then he might make a comeback in the ODI side as well. He passed the Yo-Yo Test due to his hard work in the last 12 months. He was struggling form runs in the Ranji Trophy but still kept working hard and finally got his chance. Let's hope that he will also make in the Indian ODI side before the World Cup and be a part of the World Cup.

Ambati Rayudu will have to wait for his comeback as he failed the Yo-Yo Test

Ambati Rayudu is the latest player to be the victim of the Yo-Yo Test. Ambati Rayudu was going to make a comeback in the Indian ODI team but now will have to wait longer as he failed the Yo-Yo Test. He had a sensational IPL as he scored 602 runs at an average of 43 and a strike Rate of 149.75. He was the highest run-getter for CSK and the 4th highest overall in this season. By far he had his best season in 2018.

Had he passed the Yo-Yo Test he had a great chance to make the No.4 spot in ODIs his own. But unfortunately, he will be dropped and will have to wait for his comeback. Let's hope that he can make another comeback and more importantly pass the Yo-Yo Test.
