South Africa are touring the West Indies for a multi-format series. It comprises of two Tests and three T20Is. The Test series will be played from August 7 to 19 whereas the T20I series starts from August 23. The tour will come to an end on August 27.
The first Test will begin on Wednesday, August 7, at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain in Trinidad. The Providence Stadium in Guyana will be hosting the second and final Test before the action shifts back to Trindad for the T20I series. All three T20Is will be held at the Brian Lara Stadium.
West Indies recently toured England for a three-match Test series, where they suffered a whitewash. They will be hoping to put in a much-improved performance against the Proteas.
Kraigg Brathwaite will continue to lead the Caribbean side. Vice-captain Alzarri Joseph has been rested for the series and Joshua Da Silva will be Brathwaite’s deputy in the Test series. Jomel Warrican, Justin Greaves are back in the Test squad.
Uncapped Bryan Charles has been included in the squad. The big positive for the West Indies is that Kemar Roach is back in the squad after missing the England series due to a knee injury. They will be looking to fire in unison against a strong South African side.
South Africa will be led by Temba Bavuma. They played a warm-up match against West Indies Championship XI in Tarouba. Their batters had a good hit, with Aiden Markram, Bavuma, David Bedingham, Ryan Rickelton, and Kyle Verreynne notching up fifties.
The warm-up match ended in a draw but the Proteas will be happy with their preparations ahead of the first Test. They will be looking to adapt to the conditions in the Port of Spain quickly and bring out their A-game to get an early lead in the series.
