In an attempt to strengthen their chances to qualify for the semi-finals of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024, New Zealand will square off against Sri Lanka. The Match 15 of the ongoing tournament will be played in Sharjah on Saturday.

It's a double-header on October 12 and the NZ W vs SL W clash will begin the proceedings. Sri Lanka have been eliminated from the tournament, having lost all three games thus far. The Kiwis, meanwhile, started their campaign with a rollicking win over Team India before losing against rivals Australia. A win for the Sophie Devine-led side would mean a world of good to them.

New Zealand's only loss against Sri Lanka in women's T20Is came in their previous meeting last year. It was the third match of the three-match series in Colombo when Chamari Athapaththu's class scripted Sri Lanka's maiden WT20I win over NZ.

Sophie Devine's 25-ball 46 led the Kiwis to 140/9 in 20 overs. Inoka Ranaweera took a three-wicket haul for the hosts. In reply, the Asia Cup 2024 winners made light work of the run-chase. Athapaththu made a superlative 80 while Harshitha Samarawickrama remained unbeaten on 49. The match was played on July 12, 2023.
