Sussex and Essex locked horns in the 104th game of the 2024 Vitality T20 Blast at the County Ground, Hove on Saturday. Essex won the toss and chose to field first.
Daniel Hughes (81 off 43) and Tom Clark (72 off 53) were the top scorers for Sussex. Daniel Hughes hit eight boundaries and five maximums while scoring at an SR of 188.37, while Tom Clark scored his runs at a strike rate of 135.85. Tom Alsop’s 14-ball-27 further propelled Sussex’s score to 207/2 in 20 overs. Shane Snater and Matthew Critchley took one wicket each for Essex.
Chasing 208, Essex lost both their openers early. However, Michael-Kyle Pepper’s scintillating 120 off just 53 deliveries absolutely blew Sussex away.
Pepper hit nine fours and nine sixes and scored at a staggering strike rate of 226.42, while Charlie Allison (44 off 26) too contributed to Essex’s successful chase as they won the game by five wickets and nine deliveries to spare. Ollie Robinson took three wickets for Sussex in a losing cause.
Vitality T20 Blast 2024 Most Runs List
Michael-Kyle Pepper has catapulted to the first position in the 2024 Vitality Blast highest run-getters list after his scintillating knock. Pepper has batted at a strike rate of 200 in the 11 games played so far. Daniel Hughes is second on the run-getters list with 451 runs in 12 innings and a brilliant strike rate of 170.19.
Warwickshire’s Sam Hain, with 409 runs in 10 innings, is in the third position. Rishi Patel and Miles Hammond occupy the fourth and fifth spots with 401 and 362 runs, respectively.
Northamptonshire batter Matthew Breetzke is in sixth place with 343 runs, while Sam Billings of Kent occupies the seventh place with 341 runs. Dawid Malan, Tom Alsop, and Tom Banton round off the top 10 list with 327, 326, and 325 runs, respectively, occupying the eighth, ninth, and tenth spots, in that order.
Vitality T20 Blast 2024 Most Wickets List
Luke Hollman continues to top the highest run-getters list with 21 wickets to his name in just nine innings. Hollman has one five-wicket haul and three three-wicket hauls this season. Tymal Mills and David Payne have 21 wickets too, and find themselves in the second and third positions, respectively.
Gloucestershire’s Matt Taylor is in the fourth spot with 20 wickets in 11 innings, while Danny Briggs is fifth on the list with a total of 19 wickets.
Ben Raine has taken 18 wickets this season so far and is in the sixth place, while Mason Crane, Jordan Thompson, and Tom Taylor have all taken 17 wickets and are in the seventh, eighth, and ninth positions, while Scott Currie’s 16 wicket tally puts him in the 10th position.
