Kanpur Superstars secured a two-run win over Noida Super Kings in the 26th match of the Uttar Pradesh T20 League 2024 on Saturday, September 7. Meanwhile, Meerut Superstars clinched a one-run thrilling win against Gorakhpur Lions in the 27th encounter.

Meerut Mavericks continue to lead the points table with eight wins and a loss, having picked up 16 points at an NRR of 2.246. Lucknow Falcons are in second with five wins and four losses.

Gorakhpur Lions hold the third position with four wins and five losses, and have accumulated eight points at an NRR of 0.087. Kanpur Superstars have moved one spot up with four wins and five losses, and have eight points at an NRR of -0.590.

Kashi Rudras have slipped one spot to the fifth rank with four wins and five losses, having amassed eight points at an NRR of -1.096. Noida Super Kings continue to hold the wooden spoon with two wins and seven losses.


Swastik Chikara steals the show with a century for Meerut

In the first game of the day, Kanpur Superstars were asked to bat first after losing the toss. Their top-order batters failed to create an impact in the powerplay overs but captain Sameer Rizvi stood tall with 46 runs in 38 balls, hitting four fours and one six.

He received decent support from Mohsin Khan in the death overs with 19 runs in 20 balls, hitting two fours in the process as Kanpur scored 119/7 in 20 overs. Mohammad Shuaib scalped two wickets for Noida Super Kings in the first innings.

In the chase, Noida kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Opener Harshit Sethi was the top-scorer with 30 runs from 33 balls. However, the other batters failed to contribute significantly in the middle and death overs.

Though Piyush Chawla tried to take the game deep, he couldn't propel his side over the line, as they ended on a total of 117/9 in 20 overs to lose narrowly. Mukesh Kumar was the star bowler with a three-fer for Kanpur.

In the second game of the day, Meerut batted first and scored an imposing total of 175/5 in 20 overs. Opening batter Swastik Chikara was the star of the innings with a 114-run unbeaten knock in 68 balls with three fours and 13 gigantic sixes.

He received exceptional support from Rinku Singh, who scored 44 runs in 35 balls with three fours and two sixes. Rohit Dwivedi scalped two wickets for the Lions in the first innings.

In the chase, Gorakhpur Lions put up a strong fight, with opener Abhishek Goswami scoring 43 runs in 38 balls. Captain Akshdeep Nath took the game deep with 59 runs in 49 balls with six fours.

However, when it mattered the most, the team suffered a collapse from 107/2 to 161/6. Eventually, they fell short by jyst a single run. Rajat Sanserwal and Yash Garg were the key bowlers for Meerut with two wickets apiece.
