The Punjab Kings (PBKS) ended their disappointing IPL 2023 campaign with another loss in their final game against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). With this loss, they have ended the season with 12 points, which would be quite disappointing for them after the promise they had shown earlier this season.

Although a strong finish got PBKS to 187/5 in their 20 overs, the target just seemed to be a bit under par because of the dew factor and also a belter of a surface. That proved to be right in the end as RR won the game by four wickets and ended Punjab's slim hopes of qualification for the playoffs.

PBKS have only two playoffs appearances in 16 seasons

Punjab have been one of the perennial underachievers in the IPL as they have managed to reach the playoffs on only two occasions. This was the ninth consecutive season that they failed to make it to the final four despite having some star-studded names in their ranks.

Questions will be asked about Shikhar Dhawan's future as Punjab Kings captain as they might want to look at Sam Curran as a long-term option. Once again, it seems like Punjab would need to go back to the auction and try and build a new team from scratch to see if their fortunes change.
