The fourth season of The Hundred 2024 will start on Tuesday, July 23, and will conclude on Sunday, August 18. Oval Invincibles are the defending champions and defeated Manchester Originals in the final last season by 14 runs after posting a total of 161 runs for the loss of five wickets on the board.
The Hundred is a white-ball cricket tournament created by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to attract more investment and diverse audiences to the sport. Originally scheduled to debut in 2020, the tournament was postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Featuring eight teams, each representing different cities in the UK instead of the usual county setup, The Hundred offers a unique and exciting format for cricket fans to enjoy.
The eight teams are: Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Oval Invincibles, Southern Brave, Trent Rockets, and Welsh Fire.
The men's and women's competitions are held concurrently. Each match features both teams batting for 100 balls, with the team with the highest score emerging victorious. Bowlers are limited to bowling a maximum of 20 balls each, which can be delivered in sets of five or 10 balls.
During a powerplay, which is a specific phase of the innings, the fielding team is restricted to having only two fielders on the boundary, and this phase lasts for 25 balls per inning.
