India are touring Sri Lanka for two limited-overs series, with the T20I rubber done and dusted on Tuesday, July 30, with the Men in Blue winning 3-0. The two teams will now play in a three-match ODI series, which starts on Friday, August 2, with the last game scheduled for Wednesday, August 7.
All three games of the T20I series were played in Pallekele. The action will now shift to the capital city Colombo where R. Premadasa Stadium will host all games of the ODI series. The three games will be played on Friday, Sunday and Wednesday.
Sri Lanka’s last ODI assignment came in March 2024 when they toured Bangladesh. In the three-match ODI series, Sri Lanka suffered a 2-1 loss. They will be looking to turn the tables around in the upcoming series against India.
Charith Asalanka has been handed the responsibility of leading the ODI side. This will be his first full-time series as a captain. The hosts will want to bring out their A-game after a proper drubbing in the T20I series.
India, on the other hand, last played ODI in December last year when they toured South Africa. They won the three-match ODI series by a 2-1 margin. The upcoming series against Sri Lanka will be their first assignment in the 50-over format this year.
Rohit Sharma will be leading India in the ODI series. He, along with Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav come back into the side. Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube and Harshit Rana have earned maiden call-ups to the ODI setup.
