Sourav Ganguly labels swinging sensation Mohammed Shami the biggest find of 2013

Mohammed Shami’s sudden rise to fame came after a breath-taking spell against West Indies in his debut Test match. The exploits of the young pace bowler have not gone unnoticed, as ex Indian captain Sourav Ganguly heaps praise on the find of 2013.

He said, “He’s a cricketer if he remains fit it will take a long way forward. Mohammed Shami is undoubtedly the biggest find of Indian cricket this year. You may say Kohli, but he has established himself from before.”

Virat Kohli, too, had a stellar year, as he became the joint fastest to reach the milestone of 5000 runs with legend Viv Richards.

Sourav Ganguly goes on to talk about India’s overall showing in international cricket, which was up and down at best.

“It was good as well as bad. We started well beating Australia 4-0, won Champions Trophy first time not as joint winners. But India ended with losing both Test and ODI series in South Africa,” he said.

The left hander was quick to mention the jewels that cricket lost this year, as Jacques Kallis, Sachin Tendulkar and Graeme Swann decided to hang their boots.

“It was an end of Sachin era. Not only Sachin, but Jacques Kallis as well. A big loss for Test cricket. Both contributed well to the Test cricket for their respective teams. Graeme Swann too retired for England; he had contributed immensely for the rise of English cricket.” he said.

The retired cricketer is now exploring his options, and conceded he would love to remain in the game in any capacity. Politics, too, could be an option which the Bengali was not too keen on talking about.

“I don’t want to talk about politics on TV. I want to explore a new role … But it depends on getting selected. It also depends on others,” Ganguly said.

Referring to CAB’s annual general meeting and elections in July end he said, “July is a long way to go. I would like to return to cricket in any role. It would be quite satisfying. You will have to wait and see”

However, movies and acting are not his cup of tea he admitted.

He said, “Definitely no to films, I’m not sure about how competent I am … I never thought about films.”

The 41-year old is currently working on his much awaited auto-biography and said that the book should be out before the next World Cup in 2015, a year more than the expected release.

He said “It will take longer than 2014. Hopefully before the next World Cup, you all will see my autobiography,”
