Peter Moores could make a shock return as England coach

Peter Moores is rumoured to be one of the candidates in line to replace Andy Flower as the new coach of the England cricket team, according to dailymail. Moores had received the job under similar circumstances when ECB sacked Duncan Fletcher way back in April 2007, but he soon left his position in a controversial manner after a fallout with the then national captain Kevin Pietersen during the tour of India in 2008.

After being forced out of the England set up, Moores was then appointed as the coach of Lancashire County Cricket Club on 11 February 2009. Since then, he has led Lancashire to the county championship title in 2011 for the first time in 77 years, thereby making him the only coach to have won the championship with two different counties.

Moores has a good record as coach, and it will not be baffling if he is reappointed again. This could very well be the reason for the England management showing Pietersen the way out days back, as Moores never enjoyed the presence of the batsman in a team atmosphere.

Meanwhile, Gary Kirsten has distanced himself from the English job.

Kirsten said:“It would have been a great challenge. It’s a pressurised role and I think over many years Andy Flower did an exceptional job. I had many chats with Andy and I enjoyed his way.

“I have often wondered if I could go in there with my coaching philosophies and seeing if it could work in that environment. I would have enjoyed that challenge. But I’m taking on an IPL team in Delhi Daredevils – thank goodness it’s for a shorter spell of time – and I’m really looking forward to it.”
