On Sunday, July 7, South Africa Champions and West Indies Champions locked horns in the ninth match of the World Championship of Legends 2024 at Edgbaston Stadium.

The West Indies Champions defeated South Africa Champions by six wickets on Sunday and moved from sixth to fifth position with an NRR of -1.057. South Africa dropped to sixth with three losses in three games.

Pakistan Champions are currently ranked at the top of the WCL T20 points table, having won three games in a row. They secured their most recent victory over India Champions by 68 runs.

Australia Champions retained their second spot with two wins in three games. They claimed their second consecutive victory over England Champions in the previous game by six wickets.

India also retained their third position with four points in their account. However, they have a negative net run rate of -0.682. England retained their fourth spot with two losses in three games.

Chris Gayle and Chadwick Walton propel Windies to maiden victory

South Africa reached a competitive total of 174 runs for the loss of five wickets in the first innings. Ashwell Prince was the standout performer, remaining unbeaten on 46, while Dane Vilas scored a brisk 17-ball 44*. JP Duminy (23) and Richard Levi (20) also crossed the 20-run mark.

Jason Mohammed claimed two wickets for the Windies and Samuel Badree took one.

In reply, West Indies got off to a strong start with an opening partnership of 65 runs between Dwayne Smith (22) and Chris Gayle. Gayle continued to dominate the bowlers, scoring 70 off 40. Chadwick Walton scored an unbeaten 56 off 29 deliveries to take his side home with six wickets and five deliveries to spare.

Vernon Philander picked up two wickets for South Africa, while Charl Langeveldt and Neil McKenzie took one each.
