On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, West Indies Champions and Australia Champions met in the 14th match of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 at County Ground in Northampton.

After being put into bat by the West Indies Champions, the Aussies put up a mammoth score of 274-7 thanks to a 34-ball century by Ben Dunk and 99 off 35 from Dan Christian. In reply, West Indies Champions could only manage 219-6, falling 55 runs short.

After the completion of the league stage matches, Australia Champions finished first in the World Championship of Legends points table with a net run rate of 2.464.

Pakistan Champions finished second, having won four out of five games with an NRR of +1.644. West Indies moved from fourth to third to conclude with two and three losses with an NRR of -1.127.

Despite a 54-run loss against South Africa, India finished fourth with two victories from four games with an NRR of -1.267.

South Africa Champions had the last hope to qualify in the previous game against India. Although they emerged victorious, they failed to achieve the necessary Net Run Rate (-1.340), leading to their disqualification.

England Champions ended at the foot of the WCL T20 2024 points table, having lost four games in a row and an NRR of -0.746.

Pakistan will now face West Indies in the first semi-final, while Australia will square off with India in the second. Both games are scheduled on July 12, Thursday at the County Ground in Northampton.


South Africa get eliminated despite a 54-run win due to NRR

South Africa were asked to bat first against the India Champions and Jacques Snyman and Ryan McLaren (20) stitched a 53-run opening partnership to set the tone for their side. Later, Snyman (73) and Richard Levi (60) forged another 62-run stand for the third wicket, helping South Africa to set a massive 211-run target.

Harbhajan Singh led the bowling attack of India with a four-fer, while Dhawal Kulkarni, Pawan Negi, Vinay Kumar, and Yusuf Pathan picked up one wicket each.

In reply, India managed 156 runs for the loss of six wickets. Robin Uthappa (23) and Suresh Raina (21) also made handy contributions in the top order. Yusuf Pathan was the top scorer with a 44-ball 54-run unbeaten knock, including four fours and two sixes. Irfan Pathan followed him with 35 runs off 21 balls, featuring five boundaries.

Imran Tahir, who took one wicket, was the most economical bowler for South Africa (4.5 per over). Vernon Philander picked up two wickets, while Charl Langeveldt and Jacques Snyman took one apiece.
