Australia defeated India by 23 runs in the 11th match of the World Championship of Legends 2024 on Monday, July 8, at the County Ground in Northampton. Australia had posted a total of 199 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs while batting first.

Pakistan are still in first place and have a net run rate of +2.268. They are the only undefeated team in the tournament and have won all their four matches. Australia are still in second place and have won three out of four matches with a net run rate of +2.344.

India are still in third position and have won two out of four matches, while having a net run rate of -0.297. England retained their fourth place with one win in four appearances and a net run rate of -0.886.

West Indies are still in fifth position and have won one out of three matches, while having a net run rate of -1.057. South Africa are still in sixth place and are yet to record their first victory.


India struggles to chase a 200-run target despite Yusuf Pathan's heroics

India won the toss and elected to bowl against Australia. Australia lost the wicket of Aaron Finch for just 22 runs. Shaun Marsh and Ben Dunk added 41 runs for the second wicket. Dunk scored 17 runs off 13 deliveries before getting dismissed in the eighth over. Marsh was the next one to get dismissed and scored 41 runs off 27 deliveries.

Callum Ferguson and Daniel Christian had a partnership of 43 runs for the fourth wicket. Christian added another 79 runs with Ben Cutting for the fifth wicket. Christian scored 69 runs off just 33 deliveries and helped Australia post a total of 199 runs for the loss of five wickets. Dhawal Kulkarni was the pick of the bowlers and took two wickets for 48 runs in four overs.

India lost their first wicket for just 12 runs as Irfan Pathan was dismissed after scoring nine runs off seven deliveries. They scored 46 runs in the powerplay and lost a total of three wickets. Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf Pathan added 32 runs for the fourth wicket. Yuvraj scored 19 runs off 18 deliveries. Pawan Negi was the next to depart and he made 11 runs off 10 deliveries.

Yusuf and Ambati Rayudu added 70 runs for the sixth wicket. However, it was not enough as India made 176 runs for the loss of six wickets and lost the match by 23 runs. Yusuf was the highest scorer for India and made 78 runs off 48 deliveries. Peter Siddle and Nathan Coulter-Nile took two wickets each for Australia.
