The ninth match of the 2024 World Championship of Legends saw the West Indies Champions take on the South Africa Champions at Edgbaston on Sunday, July 7. The Windies won the encounter by six wickets. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Champions defeated the England Champions by 79 runs in the second fixture of the day.

The West Indies Champions won the toss and elected to field first in the first game of the day against the South Africa Champions. South African opener Neil McKenzie got off to a horror start as he was dismissed without facing a delivery via runout. McKenzie’s opening partner Richard Levi looked good for his 20 off 14, but he was soon dismissed in a similar fashion.

Ashwell Prince steadied the Proteas’ innings with a mature knock of 46 off just 35 balls, while Dane Vilas provided the much-needed fireworks towards the end of the innings, scoring 44 runs at a blistering strike rate of 258.82. South Africa managed to score 174/5 in 20 overs.

While it seems that South Africa had put up a decent score, Chris Gayle (70 off 40) and Chadwick Walton (56 off 29) ensured that the target was successfully taken care of, with the Windies winning the match by six wickets.

In the second match of the day, Pakistan put up a score of 196/4 in 20 overs, as middle-order batters Sohaib Maqsood and Shoaib Malik scored 64 and 51 runs, respectively. Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq (23) and Abdul Razzaq’s (20) lower-order cameos helped Pakistan post an above-par score. Stuart Meaker took two wickets for the England Champions.

The chase did not go according to England’s plan, as they were reduced to 81/5 in the first 10 overs. England’s top-order collapse invariably led to their defeat, as Pakistan won the contest by 79 runs. Saeed Ajmal claimed three wickets, while Abdul Razzaq put on an all-round show, taking two wickets.
