The County Ground in Northampton hosted a doubleheader on Wednesday, July 10, to conclude the 2024 World Championship of Legends (WLC) league stage. In the first match of the day and 14th of the tournament, Australia Champions outflanked West Indies by 55 runs in a high-scoring encounter.

Batting first, Australian opener Aaron Finch departed for seven in the third over before number three Ben Dunk shared gutsy partnerships with Shaun Marsh and Callum Ferguson. Dunk himself tonked a 35-ball 100 to blaze his team to 144 in less than 12 overs. Following Dunk’s opening hour of batting bombardment, Daniel Christian walloped 11 boundaries and eight sixes to make 99 from just 35 deliveries to take the Australia Champions to a monumental 274/7.

In response, West Indies Champions opener Dwayne Smith and number six Ashley Nurse bashed dazzling half-centuries. However, tight bowling from Brett Lee (2/30), Peter Siddle (1/32), Nathan Coulter-Nile (1/13), and Daniel Christian (1/20) restricted them to 219/6.

In the final league match of the competition, South Africa Champions amassed 210/8, courtesy of a 43-ball 73 from opener Jacques Snyman and a 25-ball 60 from Richard Levi. Among the Indians, only Harbhajan Singh’s performance stood out as the off-spinner claimed figures of 4/25 in the high-scoring innings.

Vernon Philander (2/17), Imran Tahir (1/18), and Charl Langeveldt (1/22) restricted the Indian response to just 156/6 as the aging Proteas group secured a 54-run win to cap the league stage of the competition.
