On Friday, July 12, Pakistan Champions and West Indies Champions locked horns in the first semi-final match of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 while India Champions and Australia Champions met in the second. County Ground in Northampton hosted both games.
Pakistan batted first and posted a massive 198-run total for eight wickets. Younis Khan (65), Kamran Akmal (45), Aamer Yamin (40), and Sohail Tanvir (33) were the top contributors in their lineup while the rest were dismissed in single digits. Fidel Edwards picked up a three-wicket haul for West Indies Champions while Sulieman Benn took two wickets.
In reply, West Indies were restricted to 178/10 in 19.5 overs. Ashley Nurse top-scored with 36, followed by Rayad Emrit (29), Dwayne Smith (26), and Chris Gayle (22). Sohail Khan led Pakistan’s bowling assault with a four-wicket haul while Wahab Riaz and Shoaib Malik chipped in two wickets each.
In the second match, India batted first and hammered 254 runs for six wickets. Robin Uthappa (65). Yuvraj Singh (59), Yusuf Pathan (51*), and Irfan Pathan (50) scored fifties for India, resulting in a massive total. Peter Siddle was the wrecker in chief with a four-fer while Nathan Coulter-Nile and Xavier Doherty picked up one each.
In response, India limited Australia’s innings to 168/7. Tim Paine (40), Nathan Coulter-Nile (30), and Callum Ferguson (23) were the major run-getters for Australia. Dhawal Kulkarni and Pawan Negi secured two wickets each for India.
India Champions will face Pakistan Champions in the final of the World Championship of Legends on Saturday (July 13).
World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 Most Runs
Ian Bell (230 runs) and Ben Dunk (220 runs) continue to hold the top two positions with averages of 76.67 and 36.67, respectively. Daniel Christian moved up from fifth to third place, while Robin Uthappa rose to fourth. Both players have scored 215 runs, averaging 43 and 35.83, respectively.
The Pakistan pair of Sharjeel Khan (209 runs) and Shoaib Malik (204 runs) have fallen from third and fourth to fifth and sixth places, respectively.
World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2024 Most Wickets
Nathan Coulter-Nile picked up a wicket against India and rose from second to first spot with nine wickets. His teammate Brett Lee moved from top to second with as many wickets.
Peter Siddle picked up a four-fer and rocketed to third position while Harbhajan Singh descended from third to fourth, both taking eight wickets each.
Wahab Riaz took two wickets on Saturday and secured the fifth position with eight wickets. His partner Shoaib Malik has also claimed eight wickets, as has India’s Dhawal Kulkarni.
