An all-round cricketing display saw Scotland Women beat Papua New Guinea by four wickets and a colossal 136 deliveries to spare in the fifth match of the 2024 Netherlands’ Women’s ODI Tri-Series at the VRA Ground, Amsterdam.

Scotland bowler Darcey Carter put together a stupendous bowling effort in the first innings to help her side restrict the Papua New Guinea Women for just 133 runs in the first innings, while Saskia Horley’s herculean batting effort (71* off 77) saw Scotland win the fifth match of the tri-series with four wickets in hand. Naoani Vare (PNG), Brenda Tau (PNG), Chelsea Abel (Scotland), and Priyanaz Chatterji (Scotland) were some of the other top performers in this encounter.

After the completion of five matches, this is how the participating teams are poised on the points table:

The Netherlands women are placed phenomenally well, as they have managed to maintain a perfect record so far in this series. With three wins in three matches, the Dutch women’s side occupy the first position on the points table with six points and a net run rate of +0.710. The Netherlands are looking strong to finish at the top of the table come tournament end.

The Scotland women have had a fairly successful campaign too, having won two games in the three matches played so far. With four points and a net run rate of +0.867, they are in second place on the points leaderboard.

Papua New Guinea Women’s side have had a sorry tournament, with no wins and zero points to their name, languishing in third place on the points table. They have lost all four of their matches and portray a net run rate of -1.189.

Darcey Carter and Saskia Horley guide Scotland-W to a comfortable victory over PNG-W

A disciplined bowling effort for the Scotland women’s side saw them restrict Papua New Guinea women to a paltry 133 in just 40.3 overs. PNG batters Naoani Vare (44 off 87) and Brenda Tau (38 off 53) got decent starts but failed to capitalize as Scottish bowlers Darcey Carter (3/20), Chloe Abel (2/20), and Priyanaz Chatterji (2/19) got the better of them.

Chasing 134, Scottish opener Saskia Horley’s mature 77-ball 71* guided her side to an utterly comfortable four-wicket win with over 20 overs to spare. Saskia scored 10 boundaries throughout the innings while PNG bowlers Sibona Jimmy (3/19) and Vicky Araa (2/17) bowled their hearts out, but in vain.
