India locked horns with Australia in the 18th match of the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 13.
Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They lost Beth Mooney (2) and Georgia Wareham (0) in the third over, bowled by Renuka Singh. Opening batter Grace Harris (40) and Tahlia McGrath (32) stitched a 62-run partnership for the third wicket.
Later, Ellyse Perry (32) and Phoebe Litchfield (15*) took their team's total to 151/8. Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh picked up two wickets while Shreyanka Patil, Pooja Vastrakar, and Radha Yadhav took one apiece.
In reply, India also lost two wickets inside the powerplay, in the form of Shafali Verma (20) and Smriti Mandhan(6). However, Jemimah Rodriguez (16) and Harmanpreet Kaur brought some balance in the middle.
Despite Harmanpreet’s unbeaten 54, Australia closed out the game in the final over as they dismissed four batters, including two run-outs. The Aussies secured a nine-run win and confirmed their place in the tournament semi-finals.
Annabel Sutherland and Sophie Molineux claimed two wickets while Ashleigh Gardner and Megan Schutt took one apiece.

Ellyse Perry (101) scored 32 runs and moved to the seventh position while Beth Mooney dropped from sixth to eighth with 100 runs. Shafali Verma claimed the ninth position with 97 runs while Maia Bouchier (93) occupies the 10th spot.

Nonkululeko Mlaba is currently the highest wicket-taker in the tournament with nine wickets. Megan Schutt (8) and Amelia Kerr (7) occupy the next two spots. Annabel Sutherland and Sophie Molineux took two wickets and moved to the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
Meanwhile, Arundhati Reddy dropped to sixth and Renuka Singh jumped to seventh with seven wickets each. Rosemary Mair and Ashleigh Gardner moved to the next two positions with six wickets each, and Sadia Iqbal slipped to the 10th position with five wickets.
