Women's T20 World Cup 2024 Points Table: Updated standings after West Indies vs Bangladesh match

West Indies
West Indies put up a convincing display to defeat Bangladesh

West Indies secured their second successive win at the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup, recovering well from their 10-wicket defeat to South Africa that kick-started the campaign. The Women in Maroon are still alive in the race for the semi-finals after securing a massive eight-wicket triumph over Bangladesh at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Thursday, October 10.

On the back of their confident win over Scotland, the West Indies opted to bowl first after winning the toss. They produced a tight bowling display, despite the opposition making a reasonably good start considering the conditions. Bangladesh's plans for the death overs went astray after a collapse reduced them to 96-6 after they were placed at 73-2 at one stage.

Karishma Ramharack finished with impressive figures of 4-17 as Bangladesh could only end up with 103-8 in 20 overs. Skipper Nigar Sultana played a fighting knock of 39, but could not push the score and was dismissed in the final over.

In reply, West Indies made a positive start to their run chase, aligning with their net run-rate ambitions. Hayley Matthews led the charge, taking on Nahida Akter and Fahima Khatun in the powerplay to guide the side to 48 runs after six overs. The opening batter was dismissed in the eighth over while her partner Stafanie Taylor was forced to retire hurt after limping for a while.

Bangladesh's abysmal fielding was a constant theme as West Indies polished off the remaining runs in quick time to bolster their net run-rate. Deandra Dottin slammed consecutive sixes to finish off the run chase in style for her team.

Following the dominant win, the Hayley Matthews-led side are placed at the top of the Group B points table with four points. After sealing the run chase with more than seven overs to spare, they have boosted their net run-rate to +1.708. They are marginally ahead of South Africa, who have a net run-rate of +1.527.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, have suffered consecutive defeats after their initial win over Scotland. They are placed fourth in the group table with a couple of points, while their net run rate has slid down to -0.835.

West Indies to face England in a crucial clash on October 15

The 2016 Women's T20 World Cup champions will take on England in an all-important contest at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday, October 15. England are undefeated so far in the tournament, which includes a win over South Africa.

If West Indies emerge victorious against Heather Knight and Co. and South Africa beat Bangladesh in their final group game on Saturday, October 12, then the two semi-final spots will come down to the net run-rate of these sides as they will all be tied with six points apiece.
