South Africa made a massive statement to announce their semi-final intentions after a comprehensive 80-run win over Scotland in the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup. The Laura Wolvaardt-led side bounced back from their loss to England in the most dominant manner possible at the Dubai International Stadium on Wednesday, October 9.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first, and almost fell in trouble straight away. Katherine Fraser dropped a sitter at mid-off to give the in-form Wolvaardt a reprieve and the opening batter made sure to punish the error. South Africa piled up 60 runs in the powerplay with both opening batters being in prime form.

While Scotland were able to pull things back in the middle-overs, a spirited cameo by Marizanne Kapp overruled the team's No.3 woes. South Africa were able to hit the 160-run mark in the death overs, and handed a staggering 167-run target to the opposition.

It did not take long for the Scotland batting contingent to disintegrate against a potent Proteas bowling unit and an imperious required run rate. The Kathryn Bryce-led side were reduced to 34-3, and eventually bundled out for 86, with only two batters recording double figures.

The massive margin of victory has perked up South Africa's net run-rate. The Proteas had attained a solid headstart during their 10-wicket win over the West Indies in the opening contest, and their triumph against Scotland compounds the figue. They are now placed at the top in the Group B points table, with a net run-rate of +1.527, higher than all the other four sides alongside them.

Scotland, on the other hand, have recorded their third defeat on the trot. As a result, they are yet to open their points tally while their net run-rate reads a dismal -2.671.

South Africa to face Bangladesh in their final group stage game on October 12

South Africa are placed well in the points table, with their dominant net run-rate being a huge factor. They have an opportunity to extend their points tally and net run-rate as they face Bangladesh in their final group fixture. The contest is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 12 in Dubai.

Scotland will wrap up their disappointing campaign with a clash against the mighty England on Sunday, October 13 in Sharjah.
