India women registered a colossal 78-run victory over UAE women in the fifth encounter of the Women’s Asia Cup. The Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Sri Lanka hosted the clash on Sunday, July 21.

India Women continue to dominate the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup Group A standings with a perfect tournament record of two wins in two games. They also scored four points in the tournament and topped the proceedings with a net run rate of +3.386. Nepal Women have played the only game so far in this league with two points and a healthy net-run rate of +1.549. Nepal see themselves in second place in Group A.

Pakistan Women, after losing one game this season, have zero points and a net run rate of -2.506. UAE Women are yet to register a win this season, having lost both of their games and having zero points and a net run rate of -2.870. Pakistan and the UAE are third and fourth in the Group A standings, respectively.

Let's shift our focus to Group B, where Thailand Women occupy the first spot with two points in one game and a net run rate of +1.100. Sri Lanka Women, too, have scored two points in one game so far in the tournament. However, a net run rate of +1.091 places them in the second spot in Group B.

Bangladesh Women and Malaysia Women are in the third and fourth positions in the group B standings, respectively. They have no points in one game and net run rates of -1.091 and -1.100, respectively.


India Women crush UAE women by 78 runs

The fifth match of the 2024 Women’s T20 Asia Cup saw the UAE women win the toss and elect to field first. India Women rode on Shafali Verma’s quickfire 18-ball 37 and contributions from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (66 off 47) and wicketkeeper batter Richa Gosh (64* off 29). They posted a mammoth 201/5 in 20 overs.

Shafali Verma hit five boundaries and a six in her 37-run cameo at the top of the inning. Kaur and Ghosh batted at an SR of 140.43 and 220.69, respectively. Kavisha Egodage took 2/36 in four overs for the UAE.

In reply, UAE could only manage to score 123/7 in 20 overs, handing India Women a massive 78-run victory in the fifth encounter of the league stage. Kavisha Egodage (40* off 32) top scored for UAE women, while India bowler Deepti Sharma finished her spell with figures of 2/23 in four overs.
