Women's Asia Cup T20 2024: Most Runs

The Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 continued on Sunday, July 21 with two Group A matches at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Team India extended their dominance in the tournament by obliterating UAE in the first match of the day. Meanwhile, Pakistan attained redemption after the opening debacle to India by routing Nepal later in the evening.

After being invited to bat first, Indian opener Shafali Verma ensured her team dominated the powerplay. This is despite losing early wickets to Kavisha Egodage (2/36), Samaira Dharnidharka (1/42) and Heena Hotchandani (1/40).

Piling on the momentum, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur smacked 66 runs from 47 balls. She built up a rapid 75-run partnership with fellow half-centurion Richa Ghosh. The latter herself pounded 64 unbeaten runs from just 29 balls to blaze India to a colossal 201-run total from 20 overs.

Chasing 202 for a win, UAE’s entire batting line-up was restricted to 123/7 by the collective brilliance of the ‘Women in Blue’ bowlers. Deepti Sharma unfurled the spell of the innings by picking up figures of 2/23. She received assistance via timely breakthroughs from Renuka Singh, Pooja Vastrakar, and debutant Tanuja Kanwar to seal a 78-run Indian win.

In the second match of the day and the sixth of the tournament, Pakistan bowlers Fatima Sana (1/24) and Sadia Iqbal (2/19) limited Nepal Women to just 108/6. In response, Pakistan opener Gull Feroza charted a fluent 35-ball 57. Meanwhile, unbeaten Muneeba Ali (46* off 34 balls) and Tuba Hassan catered themselves to a nine-wicket win with more than eight overs to spare.
