India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav praised his Mumbai teammate Tanush Kotian on social media after he scored his second first-class century. Kotian accomplished this feat on Day 5 of the Irani Cup 2024 against the Rest of India (ROI) on Saturday, October 5, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Coming in to bat at No. 8 with Mumbai at 125/6, Tanush swiftly began scoring, reaching his fifty in 68 balls. The right-handed batter appeared steady at the crease and scored his second first-class century in 135 balls.
Suryakumar, set to play for India in a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh starting October 6, took to Instagram to commend his fellow Mumbai cricketer. He wrote:
“What an asset for Team Mumbai. What a player.”
Meanwhile, Kotian contributed 64 runs off 124 balls, including several boundaries, in the first innings. The 25-year-old also took three wickets during the match.

Mumbai excelled in their first innings, amassing an impressive total of 537 runs. Sarfaraz Khan was the standout player, finishing unbeaten on 222 runs from 286 balls. Ajinkya Rahane narrowly missed a century, contributing 97 runs off 234 balls. Shreyas Iyer (57) and Tanush Kotian (64) also played vital roles. For the Rest of India, Mukesh Kumar claimed five wickets.
Abhimanyu Easwaran was impressive for ROI, falling just short of a well-deserved double century with 191 runs off 292 balls. Dhruv Jurel added 93 runs as ROI were dismissed for 416. Shams Mulani and Kotian both took three wickets.
Prithvi Shaw played brilliantly for Mumbai in their second innings, scoring 76 runs off 105 balls. Meanwhile, the team struggled with consistent wicket loss, finding themselves at 171-8, which set up an exciting finish.
However, Tanush Kotian emerged as a standout performer for Mumbai, turning the match in their favor with a remarkable century. At the time of writing, Mumbai were 315-8, enjoying a lead of 436 runs, with Kotian on 112 and Mohit Avasthi on 39 at the crease.
