Former England batter Sir Geoffrey Boycott once called Gautam Gambhir 'rubbish' on air. Boycott, known for his blunt remarks as a cricket expert, didn't mince his words during The Oval Test between India and England in 2014.

Here's what Boycott said about Gambhir when the latter had been taking his guard:

"There's three other batters in this side that are rubbish. And now he is marking his guard he is one of them. Gambhir."

Right on cue, James Anderson dismissed Gautam Gambhir for a golden duck. The left-handed opener tried to shoulder arms to a delivery that just left him, but the extra bounce meant it took the edge before carrying to Jos Buttler.

Sir Geoffrey Boycott continued his rant on Gautam Gambhir

Sir Geoffrey Boycott didn't hold back as he went on a rant, shedding light on how he felt Gautam Gambhir was only capable of scoring runs on flat decks in India with negligible bounce and seam movement. He claimed that the southpaw was dropped for a reason, highlighting his failure.

Here's what Boycott told former England captain Michael Vaughan about Gambhir on air:

"He is rubbish, isn't he? I told you. He can't bat in England. I have seen him play nearly all of his 50 Test matches. Flat decks in India where the ball doesn't bounce, it doesn't do much, That is just crazy batting. You can't play Test match cricket like that. They left him out before because he lost it and he still hasn't found it."

Gambhir played 58 Tests for India, scoring 4,154 runs at an average of 41.95 with the aid of 22 half-centuries and nine hundreds.

He has taken over from Rahul Dravid as India's head coach and his first assignment will be a three-match ODI and T20I series away to Sri Lanka.
