[WATCH] Virat Kohli gifts his signed bat to Shakib Al Hasan following IND vs BAN 2024 Test series

Virat Kohli presented a signed bat to Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan following the bilateral Test series on Tuesday (October 1). The Indian team completed a 2-0 series whitewash over Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur.

After minimal action on the first day, and no play possible for the next two days, the second Test match was approaching a draw. However, the Indian batting unit played an explosive brand of cricket and held a run rate of 8.22 on Day 4. They declared on 285/8 and secured a 52-run first innings lead.

Bangladesh were then bundled out for 146 and set up a target of 95 for the hosts. Thereafter, Yashasvi Jaiswal (51) top-scored for the Indian side, as they won the game by seven wickets.

The game saw Shakib return with scores of 9 & 0 and take a total of four wickets. Meanwhile, Kohli had decent outings with knocks of 47 and 29*.

Recently, the Bangladesh all-rounder announced his retirement from the shortest format. The 37-year-old also confirmed that the Dhaka Test against South Africa next month will be his last appearance in the Whites. However, the venue is reportedly still awaiting security clearance from Cricket South Africa, following the unrest in the Asian country due to socio-political issues.

Nonetheless, it was Shakib Al Hasan's final Test game in India, and Virat Kohli made sure to make the moment memorable. The duo were snapped chatting with each other in a jovial mood, with Shakib holding Kohli's bat.

Shakib Al Hasan's Test career in numbers

Making his Test debut against India in May 2007 in Chattogram, Shakib Al Hasan has garnered over 4,600 runs and taken 246 wickets in 71 appearances. He has scored five centuries and registered 19 five-wicket hauls during his 17-year red-ball career.

Shakib notably led the Bangladesh team to their first-ever overseas Test victory against West Indies in 2009. However, the road was tougher in the following years, as the Tigers could win only four out of 19 Test matches under Shakib.

Earlier this year, the southpaw returned to the Test side after nearly a year against Sri Lanka. He then was part of Bangladesh's team in their maiden Test series victory against Pakistan.
