Team India spinner Varun Chakravarthy began his spell in the second T20I against Bangladesh by dismissing Litton Das on Wednesday, October 9. The wicket-keeper batter found his stumps shattered after attempting a wild slog sweep against the mystery spinner straightaway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Chakravarthy was brought into the attack in the final over of the powerplay. He began the proceedings right from where he left off in Gwalior in the series opener. He recently marked his return to the national squad following a three-year absence with a player of the match display.
The spinner began his spell with a googly that Litton Das looked to play across the line. The ball evaded the bat after it kept a touch low after pitching, going on to hit the stumps. Have a look at the wicket right here:
Bangladesh were reduced to 42-3 after 5.1 overs following Litton Das' dismissal. The wicket-keeper batter departed after scoring 14 runs off 11 deliveries, which included one six.
Varun Chakravarthy has made a strong start with his first set of overs
The returning spinner only conceded a single run off his first over in the contest after Towhid Hridoy played out the remaining deliveries post Litton Das' wicket. He bowled the eighth over of the innings as well, where he gave away eight runs. Chakravarthy also bowled a solid spell of 3-31 in the first T20I in Gwalior. He is now hoping to be in the spin bowling pool for the 2026 T20 World Cup right from the start.
Chakravarthy is expected to feature at some phase in the middle overs against Bangladesh. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav has plenty of options to turn to as Abhishek Sharma and Mayank Yadav have been used post the mystery spinner's short spell.
As of writing, Bangladesh are struggling at 70-4 after 10 overs while attempting to chase down a mammoth 222 to stay alive in the three-match series. The duo of Mahmudullah and Mehidy Hasan Miraz are trying to match the ever-climbing required run rate, which has now crossed the 15-run-per-over mark.
