[WATCH] The Oval Invincibles' winning moment as they clinch the Men's Hundred 2024 title defeating the Southern Brave in the final

The Oval Invincibles clinched the Hundred Men's Competition 2024 title defeating the Southern Brave by 17 runs in the final at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground in London on Sunday, August 18. It was the second successive title for the Invincibles, who defeated the Manchester Originals by 14 runs in last year's final.

The Oval Invincibles' Sam Curran was adjudged Player of the Tournament for his all-round exploits. Curran scored 201 runs and picked up 17 wickets throughout season four. While the Southern Brave won the inaugural title in 2021, the Trent Rockets emerged as winners of the second edition.

Saqib Mahmood produces match-winning spell for Oval Invincibles in the final

Earlier, Southern Brave skipper James Vince won the toss and opted to bowl first. Put into bat, the defending champions put up 147/9. Opener Will Jacks top-scored for his side with 37 off 22 balls which included two fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 168.18.

Chasing 148 runs for their second title, the Southern Brave could only manage 130-7, falling short of the target by 17 runs. An elated title-winning captain, Sam Billings, credited the immensely experienced head coach Tom Moody and the entire backroom staff for his side's back-to-back titles.

Sharing his thoughts about the successful journey, the 33-year-old also highlighted the importance of group effort. Billings said during the presentation ceremony (as quoted by Cricbuzz):

"In your career you don't get many days like this, group effort, in the last three years we have lost three games. These are the days you kind of live for. Massive credit to Tom Moody, he is a genius, throughout this four-year process, he shows us direction, that trust has been built. Huge credit to the backroom staff, lots of work behind the scenes and that's just as important. We spoke at one of the first team meetings this year, it's a squad that wins not the 11 players and it again comes back to the environment and other subjective things."

Oval Invincibles pacer Saqib Mahmood, who produced a match-winning spell of 3/17, was adjudged Player of the Final. Mahmood had missed the last two seasons due to injury.
