South Africa Women’s team captain Laura Wolvaardt named former Indian skipper Virat Kohli her favorite player. Wolvaardt is currently participating in the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, where the Proteas have played three matches, winning two and sitting in second place in their group.

In a conversation with the ICC, Wolvaardt was presented with a throwback photo featuring Kohli. Upon seeing the picture, she remarked:

“My favorite player.”

The opening batter is the leading run-scorer in the ongoing 2024 Women's T20 World Cup, having accumulated 141 runs in three matches at an average of 70.50, with her highest score being an unbeaten 59.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli recently played in a two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. Although the 35-year-old had a tough first game, scoring just 6 and 17 in two innings, he bounced back strongly in the second match.

Kohli scored a quickfire 47 off 35 balls in the first innings and finished with 29* off 37 in the second, helping India secure a clean sweep over Bangladesh.


Virat Kohli set to return to action in the Test series against New Zealand

The Delhi-born cricketer will next be in action when India face New Zealand in a three-match Test series starting Wednesday, October 16, in Bengaluru. The second match will be played in Pune, beginning on October 24, while the final game will start on November 1 in Mumbai.

The prolific batter has scored 8,947 runs in 115 Tests at an average of 48.89, including 30 fifties and 29 centuries. Kohli is just 53 runs away from becoming only the fourth Indian to reach 9,000 Test runs.
