Left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux was dismissed by a run-out on her first delivery at the crease during the crucial 2024 Women's T20 World Cup Group A clash. India faced Australia in the match in Sharjah on Sunday, October 13. The bizarre run out stemmed from a dropped catch by Jemimah Rodrigues in the final over of the innings.

Sophie Molineux came out to bat following Annabel Sutherland's dismissal by Shreyanka Patil. The left-handed batter chipped a delivery towards point in a bid to get Phoebe Litchfield back on strike. The fielder at point - Rodrigues - failed to hold onto the chance, but Molineux was not aware of the fact. She assumed that the fielder had pouched onto the ball successfully with the dive.

Molineux had started running, but turned around midway and even started walking back presuming that she had been caught out. However, Rodrigues collected the spilled ball and threw it to the vacant non-striker's end after Litchfield had completed her part of the run.

The dismissal resulted in Litchfield retaining the strike, and she made the most of it by scoring a last-ball six.

Sophie Molineux will have a huge role to play with the ball after Australia finish with 151 on the board

The Indian spinners had a mixed outing with the ball, but there is certainly enough on the surface to bring the tweakers into play. Molineux, part of Australia's three-pronged spin attack alongside Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham, will have a prominent role to play in the second innings.

Australia recovered from their wobbly start with the bat. Though they lost wickets at regular intervals, they maintained a positive approach to breach the 150-run mark.

In reply, India have attempted to instill positivity into the run chase. They rushed to 25-0 after three overs, with Shafali Verma wreaking havoc to maximise the powerplay.
